Introduction

Indulge in the crispy delight of Churros, a popular Mexican fritter, often found at fairs and loved by people of all ages. This tried-and-true churros recipe yields mouthwatering treats with the perfect blend of crispiness and tenderness.

What Are Churros?

Churros are cinnamon and sugar-coated fried pastry dough sticks that originated in Spain and Portugal. Resembling doughnuts, churros stand out with their ridges due to being piped from a pastry bag. Deep-fried for a fluffy and tender interior, churros have a delightfully crispy exterior.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 ½ tablespoons White sugar
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 quarts Oil (for frying)
  • ½ cup White sugar (for coating)
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Making Churro Dough:

    1. In a small saucepan, combine water, 2 ½ tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring to a boil, remove from heat, and stir in flour until a ball forms.
  2. Deep Frying:

    1. Heat oil for frying to 375°F (190°C) in a deep fryer or pot.
    2. Transfer the dough to a sturdy pastry bag fitted with a medium star tip. Carefully pipe 5- to 6-inch strips of dough into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook until golden, then transfer churros to paper towels using a spider or slotted spoon.
  3. Coating Churros:

    1. Mix ½ cup sugar and ground cinnamon. Roll the drained churros in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Tips

  • Maintain oil temperature between 350°F and 375°F (175°C and 190°C) to ensure proper frying.
  • Serve churros traditionally with sweet dipping sauces like chocolate, dulce de leche, or vanilla.

Storage

Store cooled churros in an airtight container lined with paper towels at room temperature for up to two days.
