Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sabudana / Sago seeds
  • 2 small boiled Potatoes
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Washing and Soaking:

    1. Wash the sabudana thoroughly under running water for 3-4 times.
    2. Soak the washed sabudana in enough water for an hour. After an hour, drain all the water.
    3. Cover the soaked sabudana and let it soak overnight.
  2. Mixing the Ingredients:

    1. The next morning, take the soaked sabudana. Boil 2 small potatoes.
    2. Grate the boiled potatoes into the sabudana. Mix them well together.
    3. Add red chili powder, cumin seeds, and salt to taste. Mix all the ingredients well and knead them into a dough.
  3. Shaping and Drying:

    1. If the sabudana mixture feels a little dry, add some water and knead again to achieve a pliable consistency.
    2. Take a chakali press and attach the chakali chakati (attachment) to it.
    3. Take a small ball of the dough and fill it into the chakali press.
    4. Instead of making chakali spirals, shape the dough into stick-like forms using the chakali press.
    5. Sun-dry the sabudana batata sticks under direct sunlight for 2 days. After drying for 4-5 hours, flip them over to dry from the other side as well.
    6. If sunlight is not available, you can also dry the sticks indoors under a fan.
  4. Your Sabudana Batata Sticks are ready to be enjoyed!

Notes

If the dough is breaking while shaping or if it feels too dry, add a little water, knead the dough again, and then shape the sticks.
